RESEARCH
CLOTHING INSPIRATION
Our Town, written by Thornton Wilder and directed by Robert Chapel, examines the transitions of human life from birth to death. My research consisted of real people wearing the real garment in 1901, 1904, and 1912. The three stages of life are reflected in the three acts that follow the play: birth, love, and death. I wanted the characters to wear real costumes that reflect the period in which the play is set because the play is also a metaphor of how events in the play reflect real life.
